"I got to a point where I didn't like driving or running errands by myself. Now, thanks to my CAREGiver Susan, I don't put off getting the things I need and I actually enjoy getting out."
- Ruth, Natick

We encourage you to use the following points as a checklist to evaluate home elderly care services in the Greater Worcester counties and Metro West areas. As you review this list, we think you'll come to see the advantages our Home Instead Senior Care agency has over other senior care providers.
Trusted by clients and the community
Since 1997, Home Instead Senior Care has been a reliable, trusted source of home care for individuals and families in the Greater Worcester counties and Metro West areas. We are referred to by health care, medical and social services organizations throughout (and beyond) our territory. We also contract with the local ASAPs (Aging Services Access Points) in our area. Contracting with these state agencies also means we are held to all federal and state guidelines according to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs - the EOEA.
Experienced, reliable elder care company
Home Instead Senior Care provides thousands of hours of home care service every year through trained CAREGivers. Over 75% of our CAREGivers come to us with caregiving experience; with either children or with a family member. Since 1997, our reputation and quality service meant continual growth and we now employ over 270 CAREGivers, covering both the Metro West and Greater Worcester counties areas. In the hundreds of thousands of shifts we have provided our clients, we have been able to cover 99.99% - and we can prove it!
The world leader in senior care services
Home Instead Senior Care is an international company. You can find a local office near you in more than 800 locations across North America and the world. Since its inception, in 1994, founders Paul and Lori Hogan have worked diligently to promote legislation to regulate and standardize the home care industry and the quality of care our seniors receive as well as becoming recognized as industry thought leaders through several of their book publications.
As thought leaders, Home Instead Senior Care is currently conducting strategy forums with experts to insure safe and appropriate care is available to the rapidly aging population. And, in 2009, Paul and Lori Hogan published "Stages of Senior Care." It is the first book of its kind to be released.
Locally owned and operated
Home Instead Senior Care is a network of locally owned and operated offices providing trusted elder care services. We are a home care agency. Each office has a home care staff and CAREGivers who are engaged in your community and know the resources that are available. Our Northborough and Natick offices cover the Greater Worcester counties and Metro West areas, respectively.
Not a registry or independent contractor
Home Instead employs all of their CAREGivers. As our employees, they are bonded and insured. As their employer, we not only cover all costs associated with their pre-employment screening but are also responsible for reporting and paying their taxes, insurance, workman's compensation, etc. Registries are not employers and are not responsible for reporting taxes, etc. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of the hiring party. If hiring privately, either the independent contractor or the hiring party is responsible for reporting and paying their own taxes, etc.

Thorough pre-employment CAREGiver screening
All of our CAREGivers are our employees. They are fully bonded and insured, and undergo a detailed screening process which includes:
1. The state mandated CORI (Criminal Offenders Record Information)
2. Social Security Skip Trace (with counties by counties background checks if the applicant has lived out of state within the past 7 years)
3. Nurse and Sex Offender Registry checks
4. Auto Insurance Policy point check
5. Three personal and professional reference checks each.
6. Drug testing
Experienced CAREGivers
Three out of four of our CAREGivers have experience in caring for an older family member; half have cared for older friends, and one-third have cared for both older relatives and friends. Many have been employed by Home Instead for over 5 years. We carefully train our CAREGivers and provide a safe supportive environment for both our CAREGivers and our clients.
Comprehensive employee training program
Home Instead CAREGivers are required to complete a multi-phase, elder care training program that enables them to respond to unique situations. Our Greater Worcester counties Northborough and MetroWest Natick offices follow all the EOEA guidelines as set forth for our personal care homemakers. Orientation covers a 3-hour safety and activity training course as well as a company protocol and procedures training. In addition, there are monthly self-study programs as well as monthly training classes (including our proprietary Alzheimer’s training program) offered in each office location. All of our CAREGivers are encouraged to complete these professional development classes and our Personal Care Homemakers must complete six hours of continuing education to meet our certification requirements.
Compatible CAREGivers
We get to know you and your needs and desires before a CAREGiver arrives at your door. The information we gather allows us to determine a compatible match with your CAREGiver. You'll also receive a personal introduction to your CAREGiver to ensure the relationship begins positively. If there is more than one CAREGiver working with a client, we will cross train and introduce each.
Our staff is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year to respond to schedule changes, arrange service, communicate with CAREGivers and more. We can access our database 24/7 insuring up to the minute accurate client information.
Ongoing communication and documentation
Each Home Instead Senior Care client receives a journal, where they, their family members and their CAREGiver maintain a daily diary of activities.
Quality assurance program
To ensure the client/CAREGiver relationship meets expectations, we also conduct quality assurance visits. Our Staff Coordinators visit our Companion/Homemaker clients and our Nurse Supervisors visit our Personal Care clients. As part of a national effort to provide a consistent level of high quality services from Home Instead Senior Care, all Home Instead offices participate in the PEAQ program – Pursuing Excellence by Advancing Quality. Survey results show that 97% of our clients say they would recommend us to someone else.
