The town of Holliston is located in Middlesex counties, known as the Metro West area. It was first settled in 1659 by Massachusetts Bay Puritans. Holliston was incorporated in 1724 when "the west portion of Sherborn" became Holliston, in honor of Thomas Hollis, a benefactor of Harvard College.
Initially a farming community, Holliston became the shoe manufacturing center of the US during the industrial revolution. The now empty buildings of the largest of these Holliston factories, the Goodwill Shoe Company, remain standing on Water Street, now housing artist's lofts.
Although there is no public transportation from Holliston to Boston, Holliston has become a bedroom community for this city, as well as the technical corridor of Route 128. A healthy 32 minute commute without any traffic, it is a challenge on a daily basis!
